I normally don’t use store bought sauces. This is mainly because they usually contain high fructose corn syrup and other unwanted ingredients. My local Super Target has been doing an excellent job of stocking all natural products, so I recently took a minute to check out their sauce section. I was surprised to see an all natural teriyaki sauce called Soy Vay’s Veri Veri Teriyaki on the shelf and decided to give it a try.

Quick and Healthy

I prepare meals from scratch every night, so I can sometimes get a bit burnt out on cooking. Having a pre-made teriyaki sauce I feel good about giving my family has helped me cut down on prep time. The ingredients listed on the jar are as follows: preservative free soy sauce, sugar, expeller pressed organic soy oil, fresh garlic, sesame seeds, dried onion, fresh ginger, garlic granules, expeller pressed sesame oil, onion powder, and ginger powder. As you can see, there are no artificial ingredients in this product. It’s also certified Kosher.

Great Taste

As for the taste, I’ll quote Rachel Ray by saying, “Yummo!” For the last year or so I’ve used Jo Mama’s Teriyaki Sauce from Veg Web with good results. Soy Vay’s version is better and requires less prep, so it has become a staple in our home. I’ve used this sauce on stir-fried veggies with tofu. I’ve also made chicken teriyaki with noodles in minutes because I had this sauce on hand. One favorite in our family is to simply pour the sauce over tilapia and then bake until opaque and flaky. The sauce is really versatile, with some customers reporting that they even use it as a salad dressing! Want more ideas? Recipes can be found on the Soy Vay website (see related links).

How It All Started

So how did this product come to be? The label on the bottle explains that it all started when a Jewish boy and a Chinese girl started talking about cooking. Eric Scher and Heidi Chein started working together in 1980, bottling the original Soy Vay sauce and selling it at local fairs. Other sauces created by Soy Vay include Hoisin Garlic and Island Teriyaki. The company has done well in the past two decades and continues to draw new customers.

This product is delicious and versatile. According to the bottle, Soy Vay’s Veri Veri Teriyaki is “a tried and true original tasting Teriyaki Marinade and Sauce for fish, meat, poultry, tofu, vegetables, or whatever else you may dream up.” Would you like to try this sauce? You can order it on the Soy Vay website or find it at a store near you.
